Report: Michael Che, Colin Jost Returning as SNL Sets Largest Cast in Years

After trimming down last year's lineup and bringing in fresh talent, Lorne Michaels has set the stage for 'Saturday Night Live's 51st season. According to Deadline's Peter White, the show welcomes back 13 members from its previous season, including the beloved Weekend Update duo, Colin Jost and Michael Che. Jost's return was hinted at by his wife, Scarlett Johansson, at the Toronto Film Festival, while Che's comeback was confirmed by White, ensuring the dynamic duo remains intact.

The new season's cast boasts 18 members, featuring veterans like Mikey Day, Kenan Thompson, and Bowen Yang, alongside newcomers such as Ben Marshall and Veronika Slowikowska. However, not everyone made the cut—Heidi Gardner, after an eight-season run, bids farewell, reportedly not by choice. She's joined by Michael Longfellow and others, sparking rumors of a major shake-up. Despite departures, Michaels has opted to preserve the show's seasoned core, leaving room for potential mid-season exits.

With its 51st season cast larger than the average, but not quite reaching the pandemic-era peaks, 'SNL' is poised for another exciting run. Fresh off a record-breaking Emmy night, the show is gearing up for more accolades at the upcoming Primetime Emmy Awards. Stay tuned for more laughs from Studio 8H!
