Get ready for a blast from the past! The beloved Play-Doh character Mr. Bill is stepping back into the limelight with a brand new weekly variety show, 'Mr. Bill’s Saturday Night Matinee.' Set to premiere on YouTube on October 4 at 11:30pm ET, this show promises to bring back the charm of classic comedy with a modern twist.
Created by Walter Williams, Mr. Bill first made his mark on the inaugural season of 'Saturday Night Live' nearly 50 years ago. The character quickly became a fan favorite, leading to a variety of merchandise (some more official than others) and over two dozen memorable 'SNL' shorts.
The new series, hosted by Mr. Bill himself from his 'cozy apartment in the Hollywood Hills,' will feature restored public domain comedy clips like 'The Three Stooges' and 'The Beverly Hillbillies,' reimagined in 'Billevision™.' Of course, fans can also look forward to the classic Mr. Bill shorts that started it all.
While the show is framed as a family-friendly nod to nostalgia, its timing is no coincidence, premiering just as 'SNL' returns for its 51st season. Walter Williams has been vocal about his disappointment with 'SNL' creator Lorne Michaels' past dismissal of Mr. Bill's skits, alleging racial tension—an allegation Williams has refuted.
Whether this new venture is a playful jab or simply a joyful revival, Williams is taking full creative control, curating each of the 32 episodes himself. Tune in to Mr. Bill’s YouTube Channel for new episodes every Saturday night!
