Joe Turner believes the longer a St George's Cross stays up, the more likely the homeowner is to have questionable views on immigration.

He said, 'The clock is ticking. As time goes on, the message of the flag shifts from "football's coming home" to "stop the boats" to "I have a large collection of golliwogs."'

Turner himself swiftly removed his flag post England's loss to Argentina to avoid being associated with Nigel Farage, highlighting the struggle between patriotism and perception.
