Official: GB News has axed Headliners

GB News has officially axed 'Headliners,' its late-night newspaper round-up show featuring comedians, citing poor ratings. The show, which gave a comedic twist to daily news, was unable to capture a large enough audience, leading to its abrupt cancellation.

Regular host Leo Kearse noted the show was 'too anarchic' for the channel, while comedian Josh Howie pointed to low viewer numbers. Despite a 31% jump in radio listeners, TV ratings weren't keeping pace, making the show unsustainable.

The channel has been hemorrhaging money, losing over £33 million last year. Howie denied the cancellation was linked to regulatory issues, after a controversial gag landed him in hot water with Ofcom.

Howie lamented the show's end, attributing it to GB News' shift towards mainstream respectability. He also revealed his outspoken opinions have negatively impacted his stand-up career, leading to fewer gigs and an agent's departure.

Leo Kearse shared his pride in the show's bold discussions, from gender ideology to anti-white racism, and expressed hope for an online revival. Other comedians, including Simon Evans and Lewis Schaffer, echoed the sentiment, with Evans calling the show a 'pleasure and an honour.'

Replacing 'Headliners,' 'Patrick Christys Tonight' will extend its airtime, possibly featuring some of the same comedians. Fans took to social media to vent their frustration, mourning the loss of a unique comedic perspective on current events.

GB News, with presenters like Nigel Farage and Jacob Rees-Mogg, reaches over 3 million viewers weekly. However, not even its robust lineup could save 'Headliners' from the chopping block.
