Mathew Horne to star in Britpop play

Mathew Horne, best known for his role in Gavin and Stacey, will step into the shoes of a Britpop music executive during the legendary Blur vs Oasis feud of the 1990s. Horne will portray Andy Ross, a key figure in the music industry, in the play 'The Battle'.

The play is set to open at the Birmingham Rep in February before embarking on a UK tour, concluding at the West End. The story delves into the famous rivalry between the Britpop giants, highlighting Ross's role in the infamous release clash of Blur's 'Country House' and Oasis's 'Roll With It' in 1995.

Horne expressed his excitement, stating, 'This play is right in the sweet spot of my teenage cultural experience. I’m thrilled to be exploring this iconic era in music on stage with such a talented creative team involved.'

Directed by Matthew Dunster and written by John Niven, known for his music industry satire 'Kill Your Friends', 'The Battle' promises a darkly funny exploration of fame and the cultural clashes of 1990s Britain. It's described as a satirical take on the chaos beneath the cool Britannia facade.

Tour dates and more details can be found on the play's website, and a trailer is available for those eager to relive the Britpop glory days.
