Mathew Horne to Star in Britpop Comedy Play

Mathew Horne, known for his role in 'Gavin & Stacey,' will take on a leading role in 'The Battle,' a new comedy play that dives into the legendary Britpop rivalry between Blur and Oasis. The play highlights the chaotic and humorous side of the 1990s music scene in Britain.

The production kicks off at Birmingham Rep on February 11th and will continue to tour the UK, including a stint in the West End. Horne will play Andy Ross, a music executive caught amidst the legendary battle of the bands.

Written by John Niven, 'The Battle' is described as a "blistering and darkly funny exploration of fame, ego, and the cultural clashes of 1990s Britain." It's a satirical look at how the rivalry shaped a generation and changed the face of British music.

Horne expressed his excitement, saying, "This play is right in the sweet spot of my teenage cultural experience. I'm thrilled to be exploring this iconic era in music on stage with such a talented creative team involved."

The play's producers, Melting Pot and Birmingham Rep, promise a wickedly funny experience, taking audiences from the chaos of the BRIT Awards to the infamous chart war, highlighting not just the music but the power, pride, and competitive spirit that defined the era.

Further casting announcements are expected, and tickets are available through the play's website.
