Live at the Fringe, a real-life marriage

Edinburgh Fringe performers Linus Karp and Joseph Martin are planning to say 'I do' in front of a live audience during this year's festival. The couple, known for their quirky shows like 'Gwyneth Goes Skiing', will tie the knot on the Pleasance Grand stage on August 16.

This joyous occasion marks the first legal wedding with a ticketed audience in the 78-year history of the festival, as well as the first LGBTQ+ wedding to be part of the official program. Just hours after the ceremony, the newlyweds will perform their new show, 'The Fit Prince (Who Gets Switched On The Square In The Frosty Castle The Night Before [Insert Public Holiday Here])', a humorous take on the holiday movie genre.

In a statement full of humor and brevity, Linus and Joseph, who co-founded the theatre company Awkward Productions, simply said, 'I do.'

Notably, back in 2016, comedians Zoë Coombs Marr and Rhys Nicholson staged a symbolic wedding at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival to spotlight marriage inequality, with Hannah Gadsby as the MC. Though that ceremony was not legally binding, it contributed to the conversation leading to marriage equality legislation the following year.
