Johnny Vegas has taken his talents to a new stage with a Channel 4 documentary about his ADHD diagnosis, revealed while trying to create public art for his hometown, Set Helens. At age 52, he discovered the 'chaos' in his brain was actually ADHD, which he humorously suggests makes him a better standup comedian.
The two-part series, 'Johnny Vegas: Art, ADHD And Me,' follows the comedian and trained potter as he sets out to craft an 'artistic love letter to his hometown,' only to have his grand vision wobble post-diagnosis. Vegas explains that art was his 'educational saviour' and hopes to spark a debate about culture while giving back to his beloved town.
Rumpus Media's Adeel Amini, who produced the series, praises Vegas for bringing his trademark humor and honesty to the project, exploring art and creativity. Channel 4's Shaminder Nahal notes the series highlights art's power to inspire and soothe, with Eddie Stafford's beautiful filming showcasing Vegas's unique humor and passion.
Vegas shared his ADHD revelation on BBC Breakfast in 2023, describing the disorganized chaos that makes simple tasks monumental. Diagnosed late in life, he reflects on past struggles but embraces the knowledge as a means to make positive changes.
Previously, Vegas entertained audiences with 'Carry On Glamping,' and he's soon to appear in 'Johnny Vegas's Little Shop of Antiques' for the Quest channel.
