Dawn French apologises for Gaza post

Dawn French has issued an 'unreserved' apology after her social media post was criticized for making light of Hamas's October 7 terror attacks on Israel. The post, which has since been deleted, featured French parodying the reasons for attacking Gaza, suggesting 'Yeah but you know they did a bad thing to us.'

Critics, including actor Tracy-Ann Oberman, accused the 67-year-old Vicar of Dibley star of trivializing the attack, which resulted in 1,195 deaths and 250 hostages. French clarified that her intention was to condemn the actions of war leaders rather than the victims, acknowledging her message appeared one-sided.

She stated, 'My intention was NEVER to mock, or dismiss, or diminish the horror of what happened on October 7, 2023.' French expressed her heartbreak for the innocent victims and emphasized the severity of the ongoing hostage situation.

Tracy-Ann Oberman expressed her disappointment, questioning why French would appear to downplay the horrific events. She reiterated the importance of acknowledging both the horrors of the Gaza war and the initial attacks.
