David Walliams in hot water over Nazi salute

David Walliams has landed in hot water following his attempt at humor that involved making Nazi salutes during a 'Would I Lie To You?' recording. The BBC and the show's production company, Zeppotron, labeled the gesture as 'unacceptable.' The incident occurred during the filming of the show's Christmas special when Walliams joined in on a bit started by actress Helen George, which ended with him extending his arm in the offensive gesture.

Audience member Sebastian Topan described the atmosphere as 'uncomfortable and weird,' with mixed reactions of gasps and awkward laughter. The show's host, Rob Brydon, reportedly reprimanded Walliams, while team captain Lee Mack wasn't amused either.

In light of the backlash, a spokesperson for Banijay UK, the company owning Zeppotron, stated that any humor involving such an offensive gesture is inappropriate, regardless of whether it airs. They assured that the segment would be cut from the broadcast, extending apologies to the audience present during the recording.

This isn't Walliams' first public faux pas; he previously left his role on 'Britain's Got Talent' in 2022 after a leaked audio of him making insulting remarks about contestants. Despite this, Walliams continues his work in entertainment, narrating 'It’ll Be Alright,' a show that ironically highlights TV bloopers.
